Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is a steampunk movie released in late 2004. It is based on A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. It covers the first three books in the series. Although sequels were planned, they have yet to be produced.
Plot
Lemony Snicket narrates the incidents of small children Baudelaire that newly have been orphan after being burnt its elegant mansion, heirs of a great fortune, suddenly its lives are wrapped in serious danger due to the Count's greed who attempts by all possible means, to keep the great inheritance. The children pass this way to fall under the custody of kindred eccentrics relatives who are being eliminated by the evil Count Olaf.[1]
Steampunk Influences
The movie has a deliberate steampunk visual. The aesthetic was chosen, in part, because the books are ambiguous insofar as time and place and an ambiguous setting with a "timeless" feel was desired. The steampunk influences also allowed for the film adaptation to keep the gloomy atmosphere of the books.

The movie is based off of a 13-book series and spans the first three books. The books tend to be darker in nature and the steampunk influences are sometimes more subtle than the movies overt, visual ones.
Video Game Tie-In

In October 2002, Nickelodeon Movies hired Activision to create the film's tie-in video game. The agreement also included options for sequels.
