Kage Baker (b. 10 July, 1952, Hollywood, CA) is the author of numerous novels and anthologies in the steampunk genre. There is a Wikipedia page devoted to her, and her webpage is still up as of May 2013.
She died of uterine cancer on January 31, 2010.
Her sister, Kathleen, maintains a Blog about Kage Baker and Kage Baker's works. Most of her fiction can be found on Amazon.
