Steampunk elements[]
The show takes place in a more fantastical version of Toronto. Nikola Tesla appears in the very first episode. However, as it progresses, the series goes further than portraying the cutting edge advancements of the time. Though fake, "Twentieth Century Murdoch" is about an apparent time machine. A man gets cryogenically frozen in the same story. "I, Murdoch" features a steam-powered robot. The season three finale provides a microwave death ray.
