I was about to create a page for my character, Tinker. He has a youtube channel caled Tinker's Tales, 200+ videos, 4 years and over 11,000 views. There isn't a category for him, he isn't exaclty an Author, a TV show or a Movie, more of a blogger, entertainer or a character.Read more >
I have a question. I just joined a few days ago and am now having trouble posting comments. The red notice said somthing about "session hijacking". According to wikipedia, "In computer science, session hijacking, sometimes also known as cookie hijacking is the exploitation of a valid computer session—sometimes also called a session key—to gain unauthorized access to information or services in a computer system." I certainly not skilld enough to try any of that, and I've tried to make meaningful contributions (though I have been coming back to fuss a bit obsessively over my typos), but I'm new to how this whole wiki-thing works. I did a google search but I couldn't really find anything besides the defintion of session hijacking. Is it possi…Read more >

Hey there Steampunkers!
We thought it would be fun to create a monthly challenge where YOU and other users can "steampunkify" your favorite person or fictional character. You can use Pinterest, Polyvore, or list some links to different Steampunk fashion pieces that you think would fit that particular person.
Let us know by November 21 who you want to makeover and check back the following week to see who we picked. The contest will go live on November 24. The winner will be voted on by the community!Read more >
I am indebted to my excellent band, as well as the efforts of Capt. John Sprocket of The Cog Is Dead, for their wonderful contributions to this splended new song, "They Don't Make Airships Like They Used To Anymore" - listenable on the Fump!
Stop whatever you are doing, and click on the following link; you will undoubtedly thank me later.

The Steampunk Aesthetic
Just today I was surfing around the web and came across this steampunk-modded computer:
It is exactly what comes to mind when I think "steampunk aesthetic" in that it would not look out of place in a Victorian home; it is practical, beautiful and exquisitely retro without a single aspect looking out of place.
Many steampunk enthusiasts (I really can't bring myself to call a person "a steampunk") seem to believe that everything Victorian was covered with gears or vacuum resistor tubes, forgetting that the actual gears and machinery were ALWAYS out of sight of polite society except where absolutely unavoidable (like on steam locomotives... and even then, the passenger platforms…Read more >
One of the ways of measuring the popularity of a Wiki is through the number and quality of blogs therein. I find it odd that this community is so quiet in this regard; in my experience, people who are into Steampunk tend to be communicators with something to say, yet here the quiet reigns.
Is it a lack of members? A lack of interest? A lack of something to say? I really can't tell; not enough has been written!
I look forward to reading more blogs, comments and opinions; on blogs, articles and other pages herein; it may not be a well-crafted fountain pen on fine parchment paper, but it is certainly easier!

Don't y'all just love it that there is a Wiki for just about every weird interest we have?
I remember "back in the day" when the Steampunk movement was called "Neo-Victorian Gothic"; when I went from being the "weird chick in black" to "the goth girl" to the "neo-victorian girl".
Now we just slap a "-punk" suffix and let it go at that. I don't think it's right. There is something to be said for personal style that transcends a fashion/aesthetic movement; it's not just putting on oldie-timey clothing (and a pair of goggles and gearwork jewelry); it must look good on the wearer and make sense overall.
Not that I'm fashion police or anything; far from it! Wear what you like, but remember; just getting cool clothes does not make you cool - GIGO p…Read more >
I have made quite a few changes to the posts that were here prior to having found these pages, and I am certain that I will make many more. If you find any of them objectionable for any reason, feel free to sign up and then complain. You did notice that I wrote sign up and then complain, right? I am afraid you that order of events is necessary for the protection of the Steampunk Wiki. Steampunk is ill defined, more of a feeling than anything one can actually think about. That leaves a great deal of wriggle room for people with commercial agendas. At the present time, anyone can claim to be a part of the Steampunk phenomenon, but they may or may not be. It will often depend on some very minor details about them. This is especially so when it…Read more >
